Jack of all trades, master of some

Brenna graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with her BSW in December 2020 and continued on to receive her MSW in May of 2022. She is currently in supervision for clinical licensure in both Texas and Washington. While in her undergraduate program, Brenna used her electives to obtain a certificate in Women's and Gender Studies which has informed her current practice and feminist perspective. Unrelated to Social Work, Brenna was also once a certified Pharmacy Technician and has been a licensed Cosmetologist since graduating high school. Brenna specialized in full body waxing prior to returning to college for Social Work. A waxer is a lot like a therapist though, right?

In her spare time, Brenna and her wife operate a miniature farm animal sanctuary on a homestead in deep East Texas where they are able to fully realize their “slow living” dreams. She enjoys cooking & baking from scratch, playing video games, self-care, gardening, and hanging out with all the animal BFFs. Brenna believes experience points (XP) gained from life are just as valid form of education as skill points learned from books or theory. As such, she has completed many main and side quests in life which help inform her unique perspective such as: marriage and divorce, bariatric surgery, loss and grief, sudden career loss and life changes, homelessness, managing chronic illnesses, addiction and recovery, and adult diagnosis of neurodivergence.

Therapeutic approach

Brenna is skilled working with individuals, couples, & families experiencing interpersonal and emotional issues stemming from a myriad of issues associated with generational trauma, systemic oppression, & burnout. Complex experiences such as these can result in concerning symptoms like depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment issues, substance and alcohol use, fatigue and chronic pain, autoimmune issues, body dysmorphia, irritability/anger, NSSI/SI, and grief. Without positive coping skills and community to lean on, all of these things can be incredibly overwhelming! Therapy is for anyone needing someone to talk to- which is everyone!

Brenna primarily uses a holistic and Strength-Based approach when working with clients to determine what skills & resources they already have that we can use to our advantage in problem-solving. It is a common misconception that all therapists want their clients to keep coming back for eternity. Coming from a Social Work discipline and a Feminist lens, Brenna’s goal is to empower and equip clients with the skills to find their voice, advocate for and meet their own emotional needs, and navigate future life issues without her. But you’re always welcome to come back for refreshers, as needed! Healing is not linear. Brenna uses a variety of techniques when working with clients such as trauma-informed CBT, DBT, solution focused therapy, harm reduction, accountability/coaching, and more. Brenna takes professional development seriously and plans to continue adding skills as she is able.
